About SNGMS
The objectives of SNGMS are to promote an active interest in geology and education and to facilitate and improve knowledge in gemology, lapidary arts and rock collecting. We sponsor a Kids Club, offer adult/teen classes and field trips, sponsor gem & mineral shows, host meeting speakers, and support a geosciences scholarship for University of Nevada Las Vegas undergraduates. We have a public-access mining claim and geocaches.
Our 501(c)3 documentation, by-laws, standing rules, and code of ethics are available here.
Volunteers are much appreciated and always needed! All positions at SNGMS are filled by volunteers.
There are many different ways you can pitch in and help, from assisting with the set up and tear down at annual shows, running for an office, being part of a committee, teaching a class, or helping out at the Lapidary and Education Center.

Our Story
The Prospector's Club was established in 1932 in response to the influx of people to Southern Nevada during the construction of the Hoover Dam. People with a shared interest in collecting and studying rocks, minerals, and gems formed the Club to exchange knowledge and foster a sense of community. Over the years, gem and mineral organizations came and went, or consolidated. In 2003, the Las Vegas Gem Club and the Clark County Gem Collectors merged to form the Southern Nevada Gem and Mineral Society.
